# Can I add an opener to a door that wasn't originally motorised?

Do you have a manual door and want to add an opener? Here's what you need to know before getting started.

In most cases, yes — subject to checking the compatibility between the opener kit and your door.
If you want to keep a manual locking system, you'll need to add a release system for the opener.

**What to check:** the type of door (sectional, up-and-over, side-sliding, roller, hinged or gate); the weight and dimensions of the door.
