# My door's wicket door doesn't close properly: what should I check?

A wicket door that doesn't close properly or has developed play often has a simple mechanical cause that's easy to fix.
Before replacing a part, a few simple checks often help identify the cause.

### What to check
* **The hinges** — excessive play or a bent hinge shifts the wicket door out of position and stops it closing properly.
* **The lock or strike plate** — a slight misalignment is enough to stop the latch from engaging properly.
