Articles on: Choosing the right part

Which opener should I choose for my garage door?

The opener needs to be suited to your type of door. Here are the criteria that make the difference.
Choosing an opener depends on five main criteria, even before talking about make or budget.

The type of door — A sectional, up-and-over, side-sliding, roller, hinged or gate door doesn't use the same opener systems.
The weight and size of the door — The bigger and heavier the door, the more powerful the opener needs to be. An undersized opener will strain on every cycle and wear out prematurely.
How often it's used — Typical residential use and heavier use call for different ranges of motor.
The space available — Openers are more or less bulky depending on the model.
The type of opener — Rail-mounted, shaft-mounted, axial opener…

The habit that helps: tell us the make and model of your door or gate — it's often the quickest way to point you to a compatible, correctly sized opener.
And then? Describe your door to us (type, dimensions, make) and your intended use: we'll suggest the right opener.
